INTERACTIVE EARTH Curriculum Overview
TOOLS FOR GEOSPATIAL THINKING AND LEARNING

WorldLink's Interactive Earth program features an advanced, geospatial software application connected to a curated, online library of global datasets and visualizations. Data providers include NASA Goddard, NOAA,World Resources Institute, United Nations, and USGS. An interdisciplinary curriculum supports Earth science, environmental science, and geography teachers who want to tap the abundant data and visualizations emerging from Earth system science research.

ECOLOGICAL LITERACY

An overarching goal of the Interactive Earth curriculum is to develop student’s “ecological literacy.” Literacy is a normative statement of what members of a culture should know and be able to do with their knowledge. Educator and author David Orr (2005) describes an ecologically literate person as having “at least a basic comprehension of ecology, human ecology, and the concepts of sustainability, as well as the wherewithal to solve problems.” Interactive Earth seeks to expand ecological literacy and to foster this critical competency across science and social studies education.
