FORUM DESIGN

Due to financial constraints, the 2020 Global Climate Leadership Forum in Salvador, Brazil May 27 - 30, 2010 was reframed to become a strategy session comprised of 25 Brazilian and international specialists. The purpose of the Forum was to profile a range of initiatives being convened worldwide that represent breakthrough thinking, innovative technologies, and creative networks that can assist humanity in dealing with the escalating crisis of climate change and transitioning to the new climate economy. The purpose of the 2020 Global Climate Leadership Campaign is to support innovative leadership and international collaborations in the development of climate finance, clean green technology, eco-communities, climate prosperity, and new thinking in the climate domain.  

Initiatives that were profiled at the gathering and are supported by the 2020 Climate Leadership Campaign:

Climate Change and the Global Commons

  •  Sky Charter forming a Global Commons Trust. With  James Bernard Quilligan, Chairman of the Secretariat for the Global Commons Trust.
  • Constructing a Commons-Based Policy Platform. An initiative of the Heinrich Boll Foundation to assess the international range of policy approaches on the commons. With David Bollier, On the Commons; and Michel Bauwens, Director, P2P Foundation, France 

The Climate Economy and Innovative Technology 

  •  Generating Climate Wealth with the Carbon War Room. An initiative by Richard Branson and the Carbon War Room to develop an international effort to identify and overcome the impediments to developing the climate economy. With Jigar Shaw, CEO, The Carbon War Room.
  • Trade Credit Offsets - Rapid Economic Transformation, With Dr. David Martin, Executive Chairman of M-CAM.
  • Global Innovations Commons – An initiative by M-CAM to categorize and make available to the international public thousands of patents which are now in the public domain and can be used by anyone anywhere to generate advances in the public welfare. With Dr. David Martin, Executive Chairman, M-CAM; 
  • Bhairavi Energy, a new kind of Corporation exploring breakthrough technologies - presented by Greg Bowman, CEO and President of Bhairavi Energy
  • Exemplar Zero Initiative with IREO/Humanitad. With Sacha Stone and the IREO Team.
  • CEO Leadership in the Emerging Economy – An initiative by Gaiasoft to enhance leadership capacities of business executives in the emerging climate economy. With Morel Fourman, CEO, Gaiasoft

Climate Finance

  • Climate Bonds Initiative.  An initiative from the Climate Bonds Initiative in the UK to develop innovative financing to support projects dealing with climate change. With Sean Kidney, Co-Founder, Climate Bonds Initiative
  • Trade Credits Initiative and the Fundo Brasil for New Technologies: Climate-Transforming Capital Solutions for Innovation and Industry with M-CAM. An initiative from David Martin, founder of M-CAM, to use the trade credits built up in developing countries to finance the transition to a low carbon economy. With David Martin, CEO, M-CAM; and Gustavo Cortes, Brazilian joint venture partner
  • Enterprise Innovation Fund (EIF) 
  • Impact Investing – An initiative of the Calvert Foundation. Impact investments aim to solve social or environmental challenges while generating financial profit. Impact investing includes investments that range from producing a return of principal capital to offering market-rate or even market-beating financial returns. Although impact investing could be categorized as a type of "socially responsible investing," it contrasts with negative screening, which focuses primarily on avoiding investments in "bad" or "harmful" companies - impact investors actively seek to place capital in businesses and funds that can harness the positive power of enterprise. Eco-Communities

  • International Eco-City Standards. This is an initiative from Eco-City Builders International to develop reliable standards that can be applied world-wide so that cities have common standards as to what actually constitutes an “eco-city.”  With Richard Register, President, EcoBuilders; and Kirsten Miller, Executive Director, EcoBuilders.
  • Project Green Hands - An initiative of the Isha Foundation in India and its founder Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev that is planting millions of trees and is dramatically increasing the retention rate of planted trees.
  • Eden Project – An initiative of Peter Hampton and colleagues in England to re-create a natural ecosystem.
